Dear Students, Parents & Community Members,

I am writing this in Mid-July, in anticipation of the start of the 2015-2016 school year.  It may seem an odd time to many of you, but we know that school will be fast upon us!

Last year was a land-mark as we passed the vote for a new, intermediate (Grades 3-5) school building and a renovation to the existing middle school.  In addition to developing the plans, we must create site and safety plans that allow us to continue educating our students while the building construction work is done.  We will be communicating this to you on a regular basis.

We are also working hard on our existing schools to prepare them for the school year.  The Central Office (Superintendent, Business Office, Facilities and support staff) have already moved out of the high school and into what used to be the Teen Center on First Way.  This move, and the renovation to the old photo lab, has created three new classrooms in the high school for students.    Fresh paint, new floors, improved security measures and lots of classroom moves have been accomplished, while working around an expanded summer school program.

We are delighted to present this district-wide, Refrigerator Calendar for the 2015-2016 school year.  It is filled with important dates throughout the year and we hope it will provide valuable information about our schools.  It should be helpful and we hope that you will post it in a prominent place in your home and refer to it often as a way to stay involvd in your child's education.  The 2015-2016 Calendar is also posted on our district website at  The website is a great source for even more information about each of our district's schools and all of our programs.  Inevitably, there are changes to the calendar, including some deletions and far more additions, so check the calendar on the website as we update it regularly.

The education of our children is an important charge that we take very seriously.  We understand that there are challenges and obstacles that must be met and overcome and that we cannot be successful unless we undertake our mission in partnership with parents and the commuity.  There are hundreds of ways to make a difference in your child's education - come into our schools and find out what we are doing and what you can do!

Opening Day is an exciting time for your children, our staff and the administration - we still get butterflies in our stomachs as we anticipate the first day.    We can't wait to have the hallways, classrooms and playing fields filled with the sound of happy and engaged students.  See you soon!

Respectfully submitted,

W. Michael Cozort
Superintendent of Schools
